Kakeibo is a Japanese method for saving money, introduced by Japan's first female journalist Hani Motoko in 1904. Pronounced as kah-keh-boh, the term translates to "household financial ledger". It involves keeping a journal of all income and expenses and categorising spending into needs, wants, leisure and unexpected costs. Kakeibo encourages mindful spending by helping people reflect on budget.
