The 4-4-8 breathing technique is a relaxation exercise which calms the nervous system, reduces anxiety, and promotes better sleep. It involves breathing in through the nose while counting to four and holding the breath for another count of four before breathing out steadily through mouth while counting to eight. While breathing out, allow the shoulders to relax.
