Taxes contribute around 54% and 45% to the price of petrol and diesel, respectively, in Delhi as of March 14. Every ₹1 hike in excise duty on petrol and diesel boosts Centre's revenue by about ₹14,000 crore a year. The excise duties on petrol and diesel contributed ₹1.42 lakh crore, or nearly 11% of total tax revenue for 2018-19.
