The 86-year-old former Maharashtra Home Minister and former NCP MP Padamsinh Patil was accused of orchestrating the contract killing of his cousin, Congress leader Pawanraje Nimbalkar, in 2006 over political rivalry. Patil, Deputy CM Sunetra Pawar's stepbrother, was accused of paying ₹30-35 lakh. The special CBI court reportedly heard from 128 witnesses before acquitting Patil and seven others.
