What is the difference between LDL & HDL cholesterol?

According to Harvard Health, LDL cholesterol is considered "bad" cholesterol. It carries cholesterol to arteries, where it may collect in vessel walls, contributing to plaque formation. This can raise risk of heart attack. HDL cholesterol is considered "good" cholesterol. HDL carries LDL cholesterol away from arteries and back to liver, where the LDL is broken down and passed from body.
