What is the difference between service tax & service charge?

Service tax is a tax that the service provider has to pay to the government, while service charge is an additional tip charged by the provider. Service tax is mandatory and recovered from end consumers, while the government on Monday directed that consumers can refuse to pay the service charge if they are dissatisfied with the service.
