The golden hour, or "magic hour", is the period just after sunrise or before sunset. According to Nashville Film Institute, the sun sits at a low angle during this time, and the light travels through most of the atmosphere, softening the intensity of direct light. Photographers favour it "because it gets past the flaws in an image by scattering sunlight".
