The Green Credit Program was launched by the Environment Ministry in October 2023 to encourage organisations and individuals to invest in afforestation projects on 'degraded' forest lands, in exchange for 'green credits'. These credits can be traded on a platform maintained by Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education. Each planted tree is worth one green credit.
