What is the history of National Doctors' Day?

The tradition of National Doctors' Day in India began on July 1, 1991. It's observed in honour of Bidhan Chandra Roy, a physician, educationist and the second CM of West Bengal, who dedicated his life to serving and treating individuals. He was awarded Bharat Ratna in 1961. Roy was born on July 1, 1882, and died on July 1, 1962.
