The IPL loan system, introduced in 2018, allows franchises to borrow a registered player from a rival team mid-season. A player is eligible only if he has appeared in two or fewer matches and can be loaned just once per season. The loaned player cannot face his parent franchise. The loan window opens after each team's seventh match.
