One of the most significant rituals during Navratri is the lighting of the Akhand Jyoti (eternal lamp). Under this ritual, devotees keep the holy flame lit for nine-ten days on the trot without letting it extinguish. Lighting Akhanda Jyoti is considered a symbol of driving away darkness from life. There're temples where Akhand Jyoti has continuously been lit for years.
