Vizhinjam International Seaport, inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi in Kerala, is India’s first deep water container transshipment port. Its biggest significance is its natural depth of 18 to 20 metres, only a kilometre away from shore- deep enough for the world’s largest cargo vessels to dock. It's capable of receiving huge 'mother vessels' carrying as many as 20,000 containers (TEUs).
