What is the solar cycle?

The solar cycle is an 11-year period during which the Sun's magnetic field flips, causing the north and south poles to switch places. This cycle affects solar surface activity, including sunspots caused by the magnetic fields. After flipping, it takes another 11 years for the poles to revert, completing the cycle.
