A thick layer of "sea snot" is spreading across Turkey's Sea of Marmara, posing a threat to marine life and the fishing industry. "Sea snot" is the overgrowth of microscopic algae called phytoplankton. The mucus-like slimy layer contains a variety of microorganisms and is caused by increase in seawater temperature due to global warming, stillness at sea and pollution.
