A WhatsApp blog says governments asking tech companies to find out who sent a message on private messaging services is called "traceability." It says "traceability breaks end-to-end encryption and severely undermines privacy" as "in order to trace one message, services would've to trace every message." However, Indian government said traceability will be needed only in cases of "unlawful" content.
