Trichophagia is a rare psychiatric illness that is associated with trichotillomania also known as the hair-pulling disorder. Psychiatrist Dr Sarthak Dave stated that people suffering from trichophagia compulsively swallow hair and are unable to control this urge no matter how much they try. In severe cases they might also consume hair of animals found in their surroundings.
