Vijay Diwas (December 16) marks India's victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war leading to segregation of East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) & West Pakistan (now Pakistan). The war began on December 3, following humanitarian crisis in East Pakistan, where Pakistani military tortured civilians. India supported liberation movement, which lasted 13 days & ended with 93,000 Pakistani soldiers surrendering.
