What led to Bihar's century-old temple collapsing into the Ganga?

The century-old Chaiti Durga Temple in Bihar's Bhagalpur was swept into the Ganga after intense riverbank erosion weakened ground beneath it. Officials said rising water levels, strong currents, heavy silt deposition and changes in river's flow were driving erosion. The temple stood near a vulnerable pressure zone along Raghopur-Kajikoreiya embankment, where severe scouring intensified that day.
