FIR or First Information Report marks the beginning of any criminal investigation for cognizable offences. Under Sec. 173 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023, new changes have been introduced. Now, FIRs can be filed digitally, even through audio or video. Police must register a Zero FIR at any station, regardless of jurisdiction.
