According to Moneycontrol, gold provided stability in times of uncertainty and delivered around 16% annual returns on an average in the last 10 years. Equities, through direct stocks or mutual funds, have delivered average returns of around 13% annually over the past decade, while real estate, which is traditionally a favourite among Indians, has had mixed performance.
