What phenomenon caused the skies in Australia to turn blood red?

Skies in Western Australia turned blood red due to Cyclone Narelle. As cyclone approached, strong winds lifted iron oxide-rich red soil particles and moisture into air. When sunlight passed through this dense layer, shorter wavelengths like blue were scattered, allowing longer wavelengths like red and orange to dominate. Intensity of red colour increased with higher amount of dust in atmosphere.
