Feast of Fools was a popular festival during the middle ages held on January 1 in Europe, in which a mock bishop or pope was elected and low and high officials changed places. It celebrated the biblical principle "God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise". The feast was banned and ended completely in 16th century.
