Poet Madhumita Shukla, aged 26, was murdered in 2003 when she was pregnant with her alleged lover, former UP minister Amarmani Tripathi's child. Madhumita was shot dead at close range by two visitors in her Lucknow home. Phone calls relating to the murder were traced to Amarmani's wife Madhumani. Tripathi and Madhumani are serving a life term in Gorakhpur jail.
