The Bhopal gas tragedy, which is one of the world's worst industrial disasters, occurred on December 3, 1984, following a gas leak from the Union Carbide pesticide plant. The leak is believed to have caused around 25,000 deaths to date. Around 5 lakh people had been exposed to toxic chemicals, that caused blindness and birth defects in future generations.
