A team of Austrian researchers has shown that they were able to extract 3.5 billion users' phone numbers using WhatsApp. Of the extracted numbers, researchers could access the profile photos of about 57% users and the profile text of another 29% users. A different researcher had warned Meta about the vulnerability in 2017, but Meta failed to address it.
