WhatsApp fact-check service to fight fake news ahead of polls

WhatsApp on Tuesday launched a fact-checking service 'Checkpoint' tipline in collaboration with New Delhi-based startup PROTO to curb the spread of fake news ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Users can send rumours or uncertain information for verification at '+919643000888'. Users will then receive a response indicating if the information can be classified as true, false, misleading or disputed.
