WhatsApp reads users' messages, its encryption may be the biggest consumer fraud: Telegram founder

Citing a 2026 US class-action lawsuit alleging WhatsApp maintains a backdoor allowing Meta employees to access and read users' private messages, Telegram founder Pavel Durov said, "WhatsApp's encryption may be the biggest consumer fraud in history." He added, "Despite its claims, it reads users’ messages and shares them with third parties." WhatsApp has rejected the claims in the lawsuit.
