'Navapatrika' or nine leaves, symbolising the nine forms of Goddess Durga, are tied together and worshipped. These nine plants and what they represent are Banana (Goddess Brahmani), Colocasia (Goddess Kalika), Turmeric (Goddess Durga), Jayanti (Goddess Kartiki), Bel (Lord Shiva), Pomegranate (Goddess Raktadantika), Asoka (Goddess Shokarahita), Arum (Goddess Chamunda) and Rice (Goddess Lakshmi).
