Which Chief Election Commissioners or other ECs have resigned before & why?

India's fourth CEC, Nagendra Singh, resigned in 1973 after being appointed a judge at International Court of Justice. Election Commissioner Ashok Lavasa, who dissented over Model Code violations during 2019 Lok Sabha polls, resigned in 2020 and joined Asian Development Bank as vice president. Election Commissioner Arun Goel resigned in 2024 due to reported differences with then-CEC Rajiv Kumar.
