Afghanistan held the bottom spot on the list of the 143 countries surveyed by UN-sponsored 2024 World Happiness Report to determine the world's happiest countries. Afghanistan was preceded by Lebanon, Lesotho, Sierra Leone, Congo (Kinshasa), Zimbabwe, Botswana, Malawi, Eswatini, Zambia, Yemen, Comoros, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Egypt and India. India ranked 126th in the list.
