Bihar reported the highest Total Fertility Rate (TFR) in India at 2.8, while Delhi recorded the lowest at 1.2, newly-released government data from 2023 has shown. Jharkhand, Assam, Haryana and Gujarat have the highest TFRs among Indian states, while Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Maharashtra have the lowest TFRs. Rural TFR has fallen to 2.1, reportedly for the first time.
