Banojyotsna Lahiri is a researcher and the long-term partner of Syed Umar Khalid, a former JNU research scholar and a former leader of the Democratic Students' Union, jailed in 2020 Delhi riots case. Lahiri is graduate of Jawaharlal Nehru University and is currently based in Delhi. She occasionally shares personal reflections during major legal moments in Umar Khalid's prolonged imprisonment.
