Cardinal Pietro Parolin, who is likely to lead the Catholic Church after Pope Francis' demise, hails from Italy and has served as Vatican's key diplomat for decades. Aged 70, he had joined the seminary at the age of 14 and was ordained a priest by the age of 25. Parolin studied canon law at the Gregorian University in Rome.
