Chandrakant Sompura, the 80-year-old architect who designed Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, is the 15th generation of the Sompura family of temple architects from Ahmedabad. He first visited the Ram Mandir site over 30 years ago. Since he was not allowed to take measuring tapes, he measured the site with his footsteps and later crafted designs based on these measurements.
