Ethiopia's 55-year-old microbiologist, Doctor Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, is Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) who was elected for a five-year term in 2017. Prior to his election at WHO, he served as Ethiopia's Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2012–2016 and Minister of Health from 2005–2012. He holds a PhD in Community Health and MSc in Immunology of Infectious Diseases.
