Sanjiv Bhatt, a former IPS officer, is serving life imprisonment for the 1990 custodial death of Prabhudas Vaishnani, detained during communal riots in Jamnagar. Convicted in 2019, his sentence was upheld by the Gujarat High Court in 2024. On April 29, 2025, the Supreme Court rejected his bail plea but ordered expedited hearing of his appeal.
