Kabita Sarkar, a 52-year-old lawyer with 25 years of experience, has been appointed by Sealdah court to defend Sanjay Roy, the main accused in Kolkata doctor's rape-murder. Sarkar graduated from Hooghly Mohsin College and began her career at Alipore court. In February 2023, she joined SALSA (South Asian Law Students' Association) and transitioned to criminal law. Sarkar opposes capital punishment.
