Girish Chandra Murmu, who has been appointed as the first Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, is a 1985-batch Gujarat-cadre IAS officer. Murmu is currently serving as the Expenditure Secretary in the Union Finance Ministry. Murmu, who belongs to Odisha, was the Principal Secretary in the Chief Minister's Office when PM Narendra Modi helmed the state government in Gujarat.
