Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation of India, was shot dead on January 30, 1948. His death sent the entire nation into shock and grief. The day is observed as Martyrs' Day, or Shaheed Diwas. On this day, Nathuram Godse, took a pistol out of his trouser and shot Gandhi three times at point-blank range.
