WHO says excessive salt intake increasing risk of heart diseases & stroke

The World Health Organization (WHO) said that most people consume two times the WHO-recommended 5g of daily salt intake, putting themselves at greater risk of heart diseases and strokes. It also released a new set of benchmarks for sodium levels in more than 60 food categories. It added that the benchmarks will help countries reduce salt intake and save lives.

Justice BR Gavai to take oath as next CJI on May 14

Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna has written to the Union Law Ministry, recommending Justice BR Gavai as his successor. Upon approval by the government, Justice Gavai will take oath as the next CJI on May 14. Elevated as a Judge of the Supreme Court on May 24, 2019, Justice Gavai is due to retire on November 23, 2025.

Live colossal squid filmed for the first time ever

A colossal squid has been filmed in its natural habitat for the first time, a century after the species was discovered. Researchers at the Schmidt Ocean Institute captured the video of the live colossal squid. It was filmed 2,254 feet below sea level near Antarctica using a remotely operated underwater vehicle. This animal is the world's heaviest invertebrate.

During the KKR-PBKS match in Mullanpur on Tuesday, KKR's Andre Russell, Sunil Narine and Anrich Nortje failed the bat test. The umpires checked their bats through triangle-shaped plastic gauge and found them to be over the size limit. They were then forced to play with other bats.

Supreme Court to hear pleas against Waqf Act today

The Act was passed by the Parliament on April 4 and received President Droupadi Murmu's assent on April 5, while Centre notified its operation from April 8. OpenAI building its own social media network to rival Musk's X: Report

Sam Altman-led OpenAI already has an internal prototype of the social network focused on ChatGPT's image generation that has a social feed, the report said. The potential move could escalate tensions between Altman and X owner Elon Musk, who left OpenAI in 2018.

Gold prices rose by ₹50 to reclaim the all-time high level of ₹96,450 per 10 grams in Delhi on Tuesday, according to the All India Sarafa Association. On Monday, the yellow metal of 99.9% purity had fallen by ₹50 to settle at ₹96,400 per 10 grams. Meanwhile, silver prices climbed by ₹2,500 to ₹97,500 per kg.
