Born on Santo Estevao island to an impoverished okra-farming family, Miguel Caetano Dias defied all odds to become Goa's foremost medical reformer. From copying textbooks by hand to leading the 1908 plague battle, he revolutionised public health, modernised medical care, and became Goa's first native 'General'. His legacy remains a cornerstone of Goan healthcare.
