During his address to Israel's Knesset, PM Narendra Modi recalled the Jam Saheb of Nawanagar (present-day Jamnagar in Gujarat), Maharaja Digvijaysinhji Ranjitsinhji Jadeja. In 1942, Jam Saheb offered refuge to about 1,000 Polish children, many of them Jewish, who were left homeless during World War II. He established a settlement and provided them with shelter, food, education, and medical care.
