Martyred IAF Garuda Commando Jyoti Prakash Nirala was honoured with the Ashoka Chakra, India's highest peacetime gallantry award, posthumously for his role in a counter-terrorist operation in Jammu and Kashmir. Nirala was part of an army operation in November 2017, in which he gunned down two Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists despite being shot thrice. Five terrorists were killed in that operation.
