Why was 3-day bank strike deferred at the last moment?

A late-night meeting between Indian Banks Association (IBA) and United Forum of Bank Unions on Sunday resulted in the deferring of the three-day strike. The decision followed an assurance that a high-level committee will be formed to examine the sticking issue of five-day working week. The sensitive half-yearly closing period also reportedly pushed IBA to give assurances to the union.
