Why are bidis getting cheaper while cigarettes costlier after GST reforms?

Bidis are set to become cheaper while cigarettes and other tobacco products like gutkha will get costlier, as the government has cut GST on bidis from 28% to 18%. The GST on tendu leaves, which are used to make bidis, has also been reduced from 18% to 5%. Meanwhile, cigarettes and other tobacco products will now attract 40% GST.
