India's top telecom operators, Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea, have opposed a proposal to mandate affordable standalone voice and SMS plans. According to Livemint, they argue there is little consumer demand for such packs and warn the move could slow digital adoption, reduce returns on 5G investments and increase spam from unregistered telemarketers.
