Olympics are held every four years to honour the ancient Greek tradition. In ancient Greece, Olympics took place in Olympia every four years, starting in 776 BCE. The four-year period became known as an 'Olympiad' and it was a way for the Greeks to measure time. The modern Olympic Games, revived in 1896 by Pierre de Coubertin, continued the tradition.
