short by / on Friday, 31 October, 2025
The Channel Tunnel faces a major technical challenge. As high-speed trains pass through, air in front of them gets compressed, creating strong resistance that slows the train. To solve this, piston relief ducts are installed in the tunnel. The compressed air gets bypassed to the next tunnel. This reduces pressure and improves train efficiency.
