Why could Indians face costlier food in 2026?

Indians are likely to see their food bill rise in 2026 as the effects of the Strait of Hormuz's closure are likely to drive agricultural raw material prices higher. This, coupled with costlier fertilisers, disrupted LPG supply, and a 60% chance of below-normal monsoon, may increase food prices. Food and Agriculture Organization said this may trim India's GDP by 1.7%.
