Why did 8.8-magnitude earthquake in Russia not cause a huge tsunami?

The 8.8‑magnitude earthquake off Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula generated only moderate tsunami. According to seismologists, earthquake’s 20-km depth on a subduction zone's megathrust fault caused only limited vertical displacement of seafloor. This restricted water movement in Pacific and prevented formation of large, destructive waves. Further, no large underwater landslide might also have helped.
